Collector coin appraisals with no pressure in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Western Slope Coin Club members want to see your coins! Every month, before their official meeting, local experts invite the public to visit with their coin collections for a relaxed viewing and valuation. And it's free.Meetings are held every second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Public coin viewings take place the hour before."We want people to have more information about their coins before they sell, without being in a buy-sell environment," John Martin, a club member, said.Though the Western Club Coin Club plans to meet at the Redlands Community Center - its regular spot - this month, April 10; next month the club is moving to a bigger meeting space at the VFW Hall, 1404 Ute Ave., going forward. That's because public participation in this free monthly event has been growing in popularity."It's a public service that we do," Martin said. "It doesn't hurt to give back to a community that's been good to us."Members particularly love helping people understand their coins through stories and anecdotes."It's a family heirloom and now they know more about it," Martin added.Ready to sell your coins? The Western Slope Coin Club also puts on two large coin shows each year, and one is scheduled for April 26-27 at the Lincoln Park Barn. The cost is $2 to enter, and 30 coin dealers will be there buying and selling coins, as well as paper money. "At least two tables will be set up with Coin Club members to receive valuation before stepping into competitive market," Martin said. For more information, call club member Dean Crysler at 970-241-1770.
