Charity fun run, umpires needed, soccer camp and tournament

A charity run to benefit Grand Valley Middle School in Battlement Mesa will be held April 20.

The Move It, Move It Family 5K Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m. at the school. The run is open to all ages, and race fees will go toward funding supplies for the Center of Family Learning movement program.

A race shirt is guaranteed for all registrations received by race day. Pre-race registration is $15, and race-day registration - which begins at 9:15 a.m. - is $20. Pre-registered teams of four will be $40. All participants will receive an award.

The Rifle Creek's Men's Club, which plays at Rifle Creek Golf Course, is now accepting members for its 2013 Thursday Night Men's Club. It is two-man team play. Play is 5:30 p.m. Thursdays. League play starts May 2.

Rifle Parks and Recreation is seeking umpires for adult softball and youth baseball and softball programs for the summer season of May to mid-August. Applicants must be at least 14 years old. Pay is $15 to $25 per game DOQ. Job descriptions and employment applications can be found online at

The Parachute/Battlement Mesa Recreation District is hosting the second-annual Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp on Aug. 5-9 at Cottonwood Park in Parachute.

The camp will emphasize fundamental and advanced instruction for diverse age groups.

Play it Forward tournament

The fifth-annual Emily Johnson Play it Forward 3-on-3 Soccer Tournament will take place June 7-9 and Gates Soccer Park on Colorado Mountain College's Spring Valley campus in south Glenwood Springs.

Proceeds from the tournament support three scholarships given to high school seniors in the name of Johnson, a Coal Ridge High School student who was killed in an ATV accident in 2008.

Play begins at 8 a.m. June 8 and continues through June 9 for the U8 through U18 age groups. All-star exhibition games featuring all-league award winners in the Class 3A and 4A Western Slope Leagues will beheld on June 7. The boys game will be played at 5 p.m. and the girls game at 7 p.m.

Cost per team is $150 or $25 per player. The fee includes a three-game guarantee, a tournament goody bag and a tournament T-shirt.
