RIFLE, Colorado - Ashlynn Speakman scored four goals and Kyra Chenoweth added a pair to help the Grand Valley High School girls soccer team beat Rifle, 8-0, in a non-league match on Tuesday.
Lauren Paskett and Tirianna Lawrence also added goals for the Cardinals (9-1-0 overall), who matched their win total from last season with the victory. Hannah Cornelius had an assist and Jordanne Williams had a pair of assists for Grand Valley.
The Cardinals went 9-6-0 last season, which matched the program's record for wins in a season.
"I think we have put ourselves in a good position going forward," Grand Valley coach Eric Sarno said. "The challenge is keeping these girls hungry and motivated down the stretch."
Rifle (0-9-0), which scored its first goal of the season at Delta on April 11, is continuing its process in rebuilding the program. Coach Rich Carter is encouraged by the progress his team has made.
"They got two quick goals on us, but our girls kept fighting," Carter said. "In the second half, we created numerous scoring opportunities. This is just another step forward for us."
CARBONDALE, Colorado - Seven different players scored goals for the Roaring Fork High School girls soccer team in the Rams' 8-0 Class 3A Western Slope League win.
Emily Fischer scored two goals with three assists, Shiloh Marriott had a goal and two assists, Natalie Olivas and Taylor Adams each had on goal and one assist and Kristen Joyner, Georgia Ackerman and Madison Handy also scored for the Rams (4-1-1).
Roaring Fork is scheduled to host Rangely on Thursday in another league matchup.
CORTEZ, Colorado - Rifle High senior Taylor Walters shot a 76 on Tuesday at Conquistador Golf Course, helping her finish third individually in the Southwestern League Championships.
Walters' score was the best of the day by the field in the two-day tournament, and her two-day score of 163 was good for third place individually. She was in fourth place after her first-round score of 87 at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango.
Kala Keltz of Montrose won medalist honors with a two-day score of 158, with Kiselya Plewe of Dolores finishing one stroke back in second. Montrose finished with a first-place team score of 509, followed by Grand Junction Central (546), Grand Junction (557) and Rifle (581).
Alyx Carter shot a 186 in two days to finish in a tie for seventh place individually with Montrose's Justine Johnson. Other Rifle finishers included Monika Spaulding (234), Emily Neuroth (226) and Manisa Balasundaram (286).
Inclement weather forced schedule changes again for area prep baseball and soccer teams.

The Glenwood Springs and Rifle baseball game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was rescheduled to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Deerfield Park in Rifle.
MONTROSE, Colorado - Two relay teams posted state-qualifying times, and three individuals posted state qualifying marks for the Glenwood Springs High boys swim team at Saturday's Montrose Invitational.
The Demons' 200-yard medley relay team of Zachary Baker, Zab Thorsen, Jack Cassidy and Luke Herron had a fifth-place time of 1 minute, 53.93 seconds to qualify for state, and the 200 freestyle relay team of the same swimmers also qualified, finishing fourth in 1:40.53.
Cassidy qualified in the 200 free, the 500 free, the 100 free and the 100 butterfly. He won the 200 free in 1:52.85, and his winning time of 5:04.46 in the 500 free was good enough to meet 5A qualifying standards.
Baker and Thorsen each met 4A state-qualifying standards in the 100 backstroke.
