GARDENSOXX: A unique garden product new to Grand Junction

Want a backyard garden, but don't have time to create a viable space?

Ryan Durham of Catch-22 Industrial Solutions - an excavation, construction and energy supply company in Grand Junction - is selling Filtrexx Design Services' GardenSoxx, a unique product he said "is handy for planters" and keeps you off your hands and knees. GardenSoxx are "an 8-inch by 2-foot-long chub," a mesh tube filled with "super nutrient-enriched soil."

With GardenSoxx, produce and even flowers can be grown anywhere - "in good soil, bad soil, no soil, contaminated soils; on concrete, decks, and patios; in backyards, front yards, and in fields," Gardensoxx.com said. It allows you to have a garden anywhere.

According to Durham, this item "originated back east, and as far as I know we're the first to bring it out to the western United States." One Soxx tube is $14.99, and you can buy as many as you need.

"You plant, water and watch it grow," Durham said. "It just explodes with produce."

So, how does it work?

"You poke a hole in the mesh on top, and either seed it or plant it with plugs," Durham noted. "The advantage is that it's guaranteed to be weed- and toxin-free. It's clean compost."
