Editor's note: The Garfield County Sheriff's Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Runaway: At 8:41 p.m. on April 5, deputies learned of a runaway young boy in the Glenwood Springs area. The youth was located and returned to his home.
Dog bites man: At 3:04 p.m. on April 5, deputies were advised that a dog had bitten a man along Highway 82 near Carbondale. The dog owner, Cael Etner Jones, 23, of Carbondale, was located and ticketed for having a vicious animal. The victim was treated at a medical clinic.
Sexual assault: At 9:28 a.m. on April 5, deputies learned of an alleged sexual assault in the Carbondale area. The case remains open and active.
Dogs fighting: At 2:06 p.m. on April 6, Animal Control responded to a call about three dogs fighting on County Road 218 in the Silt area. A white female boxer was taken to a local vet's office for treatment of extensive injuries. One dog was uninjured, and another was surrendered and taken to an animal shelter. Darren Michael Menu, 29, of Silt, was ticketed for having a dog running at large. The owner of the white boxer could not be located.
DUI, etc.: At 2:12 a.m. on April 6, deputies stopped a vehicle for allegedly weaving on Highway 82 near Carbondale. After investigating, the deputies arrested and jailed Jena Lee Thompson, 29, of Cortez, on charges of weaving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Running a stop sign: At 6:26 a.m.. on April 6, deputies stopped a vehicle for allegedly running a stop sign near Rifle. After investigating, they arrested and jailed Jordan Demers, 32, of Grand Junction, on charges of failing to pay court-ordered fines (warrant arrest), running a stop sign, driving under a revoked license, and careless driving.
DUI, etc.: At 1:33 a.m. on April 7, deputies stopped a vehicle for failure to use turn signals on U.S. Highway 6 near Rifle. After investigating, they arrested and jailed Oscar Nunez Marquez, 37, of Rifle, on charges of driving while his license was under restraint, driving with excessive alcohol content, having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, and displaying expired license plates. The deputies ticketed passenger Elmer Soto-Barela, 29, of Rifle, for the open container in the vehicle as well.
DUI, etc.: At 2:36 a.m. on April 7, deputies pulled over a vehicle for traffic infractions on Highway 82 south of Glenwood Springs. After investigating they arrested and jailed Walter Michael Deemie, 27, of Peoria, Ill., on charges of weaving, speeding and drunk driving.
DUI, etc.: At 8:40 p.m. on April 8, deputies stopped a vehicle for allegedly weaving on East First Street in Parachute. After investigating, they arrested and jailed Carrie Ann Kalaher, 41, of Parachute, on charges of drunk driving and weaving.
Sexual assault: At 7:08 p.m. on April 10, deputies took a report of a sexual assault in the Glenwood Springs area. The case remains open and under investigation.
Orange cat locked up: At 5:58 p.m. on April 10, deputies responded to an animal complaint on Oro Court in Battlement Mesa. A female orange cat was impounded and taken to an area animal shelter.
