Thunder River Theatre Company’s fourth annual Karen Chamberlain Poetry Festival will be held at Thunder River Theatre in Carbondale March 28-30. All are invited to honor the inspiring life of Karen Chamberlain, who passed away in September 2010. The theme of the fourth installment of this annual series is “Beneath the Surface.”
Featured performers include Judyth Hill, Western Slope Poet Laureate Aaron Abeyta, Rich Broderick, Katherine Seluja, Don McIver, Micah Franz, Jared Smith, Lenny Chernila and Barbara Ford. Performances and open mics take place Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday morning concludes the festival with a continental breakfast and an open mic beginning at 10 a.m.
Saturday workshops, a dozen of them, include Shovels and Pick-Axes: Three Surprising Structures for Poetry Writing with F. Reetz; Conversing with Sophia with Stewart Warren; The Fun’s in How You Say a Thing with Mark Todd; Writing Your Ars Poetica with Debbi Brody; What is Spoken Word? with Don McIver; Going Beneath the Surface of the Poem: Writing Poetry With Dimension, Vision and Sound with Aaron Abeyta; Beneath the surface under the wave with Bill Kight; The Poetry of Loss and Healing with Kim Nuzzo; Sacred Land: LaChapelle & Stafford with Art Goodtimes and Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer; Persona Poems with Airica Parker; and workshops with Judyth Hill and Luis Lopez.
