The Basalt town government hopes to help the owners of the Taqueria el Nopal restaurant relocate within Basalt this spring, Town Manager Mike Scanlon told the Town Council Tuesday night.
Scanlon wouldn’t disclose the potential relocation site but he said it would be a “turn-key operation,” suggesting it is a place being vacated by an existing restaurant.
The town owns the property where the popular restaurant is located. It is selling the site to Rocky Mountain Institute for a new office building and Innovation Center.
If the relocation is successful, the current Taqueria building will be torn down in anticipation of Rocky Mountain Institute eventually starting construction.
“We’ll have the Taq down by the end of April,” Scanlon said. The site must be raised out of the floodplain to make it developable.
