On the morning of Friday, April 4, workers at a construction site at 319 Main Street in Carbondale called police to report a theft. Someone had reportedly come in the previous night, shut off the breakers, and taken an unspecified amount of copper wire.
Police were able to identify the make of a suspect’s truck based on video evidence. They subsequently received a tip that a man had attempted to sell similar wire at a nearby recycling center.
Michael Hocking, 41, of Carbondale, was arrested and charged with theft and criminal mischief.
The value of the wire is estimated at less than $1,000, so barring further evidence, the theft charge will be treated as a misdemeanor. It is unclear whether the incident was linked to any other recent construction site thefts.
