Bike Rodeo rolls through New Castle

NEW CASTLE — They turned out on bicycles, tricycles, scooters and PowerWings. More than 70 kids attended the New Castle Police Department’s annual Bike Rodeo Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the Lakota Recreation Center.

The event promotes bicycle safety with officers on hand to fit the kids with bike helmets, make sure they know their hand signals for turning, and guide them through an obstacle course that is similar to typical street traffic patterns.

“We fit each child who needs one with a helmet or give them a new one if theirs is in bad condition,” said Police Chief Tony Pagni. “We’re also raffling off 14 bicycles that have been donated by some of the large vendors.”

Following the rodeo, the police department cooked lunch for the kids and their families.

The annual Silt Police Department Bike Rodeo will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 and will feature a morning full of obstacle courses, prizes and refreshments.
