Gas line leak in West Glenwood Springs

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — SourceGas officials responded and quickly repaired a ruptured natural gas line in West Glenwood around noon on Thursday.

The rupture occurred when an excavator working in the Gregory Park area struck a 1-inch service line operated by natural gas utiliy SourceGas.

The service line runs from the main to a customer’s premises, and only one customer was affected, SourceGas spokesman Aaron Owens said.

“Our crews shut off gas to the line, repairs were made and service was restored by 2:30 p.m.,” Owens said.

“Our priority is always to make the situation safe for our customers, our employees, emergency responders, and the public,” he said.

Glenwood Springs Fire Chief Gary Tillotson said residents of the area were advised of the situation before the gas line was shut off. He also said the excavator was working on a city project, and was not associated with the nearby construction on the new Two Rivers Community School.
