East end of canyon bike path reopened

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Colorado Department of Transportation officials have reopened another section of the Glenwood Canyon bike path, from the trailhead east of the Bair Ranch Rest Area to Hanging Lake.

“We had a lot of debris, logs and dirt to clean up after the spring runoff, but we were able to open that stretch,” CDOT spokeswoman Tracy Trulove said Thursday.

The reopening of that approximately 6-mile stretch of trail, along with the previous reopening of the 4-mile section from No Name to Grizzly Creek, means the majority of the 12-mile-long path is now open.

Still closed is the middle section, between Grizzly Creek and Shoshone, due to significant damage to a portion of the concrete path in that area from the high spring runoff in the Colorado River.

CDOT does not have a cost estimate or time frame for completing those repairs, Trulove said.
