Local roofer hangs out his shingle

How did your business start?

With opportunity. Roaring Fork Roofing was an idea that led into reality. It took guts and drive to open up a new company. I believe that there is a great opportunity in this valley for growth.

What do you sell?

Our company specializes in residential and commercial roof systems, and our employees attend certification courses to make sure that we are current on installation methods. Roaring Fork Roofing features quality roofing products manufactured by GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Tamko, Genflex, DaVinci, plus many more.

Our sheet metal department specializes in custom architectural work, including custom fabrication and patina. We can fabricate or roll form gutters and downspouts. We also fabricate and install standing seam, flat seam metal roofing, and custom wall panels.

Ultimately we sell service and solutions. We approach the roof from a building science point of view. It is no longer just slap up some shingles and wait another 20 years to replace. Housing has become more high tech, which affects the overall performance of the house. That is why we stay on top of the roofing product changes.

What positive lessons did you learn during the recession?

The biggest lesson that I learned was to bring back old school customer service. Not to just answer phones and send emails, but good old customer service. The kind where we like to meet face to face. Walk the customer through the bid and answer any questions that they might have.

What strategy do you use to hire good people?

We look for people that want to invest in the company as much as they want the company to invest in them. Of all the components that make Roaring Fork Roofing a success, nothing is more important than our people. Our employees average more than 15 years of service within the industry. We are proud of the longevity, stability and excellence of our staff and crews.

What is your strategy for growth in the next year?

We continue to grow in new and existing markets with a focus on quality and sustainability. We fuel these opportunities with savings from our Comprehensive Continuous Improvement initiative, which improves productivity and reduces costs.

What is the best thing about running a business here?

The community. We have the best of everything right here. From rural, to urban, to mountains. Great weather and great people.
