An approximately 4-acre fire was burning about 2 miles northwest of Rifle in the Fravert area on Sunday, according to BLM spokesman David Boyd.
Two single-engine air tankers made fire retardant drops, and Boyd said, ‘[The fire]’s not looking like it’s going to grow at this point.” There was no containment estimate Sunday afternoon.
Six engines with approximately 25 firefighters are on the scene, and a 20-person hand crew was expected to arrive late Sunday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Boyd said, “There’s been no lightning lately, so it was probably human caused.”
The Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit and Colorado River Fire Rescue responded to the fire with assistance from Grand River Fire Protection District.
