Alpine Bank robbed in W. Glenwood

Police were searching for a man who Monday afternoon robbed the Alpine Bank branch in West Glenwood Alpine Bank.

According to Glenwood Springs Police, the incident occurred at 1:18 p.m. when a white man in his 50s passed a note to a teller and showed a handgun.

He fled on foot toward the Glenwood Springs Mall with an undisclosed amount of money. No one saw him get in a vehicle.

Surveillance photos from the robbery show a man wearing blue and white checkered shorts and a blue T-shirt. He had salt-and-pepper hair and facial stubble. He has no noticeable accent, and is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a medium build.

Bob Young, chairman and founder of Alpine Bank, told the Post Independent that only one teller was involved. He said the robber was in and out of the bank in a couple of minutes, and got away with the contents of a cash drawer, which could represent between $5,000 and $10,000.

The most recent bank robbery in Glenwood occurred at U.S. Bank’s downtown location in April 2012. The West Glenwood Alpine branch was robbed in December 2008.

“It’s not exactly uncharted territory,” Young said.

“It’s part of doing business. We don’t enjoy it, but we deal with it,” he added. “Our main concern is our people, and if they’re all right, nothing else is very significant.”
