Roberta Jo Hutton

February 17, 1931 - August 1, 2014

Jo first saw the glow of a beautiful winter sun in the morning of 17 February 1931 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Hobart and Maurine “Sug” Neal. She was named Roberta Jo, but called Jo in honor of her grandfather, Joe Neal a rancher and bank president in Meeker. Jo enjoyed a marvelous and enviable life of 83 years and five months when she was welcomed home by our Lord on August 1, 2014 in Orangevale, California.

Jo’s family moved to Rifle, Colorado, where she graduated from Rifle Union High School, class of 1949. She was elected to the American Honor Society for two years, was elected as a class officer for three years, and was active in the Glee Club, the Dance Club, the Dramatics Club and the F.H.A. She was also a member of Rainbow Girls.

In July, the summer of her graduation she married Harry Hutton, class of 1946. They moved to California in 1951 and settled in Long Beach where Jo attended Long Beach City College until their first child, a son, Craig, was born in 1952. Two daughters followed, Kim born in 1954 and Patty in 1960. Harry was transferred to Sacramento in 1958 where the family settled in Fair Oaks. Jo and Harry became members of Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church in 1974. Jo was elected an officer of the church serving as deacon for three years. She then served as a volunteer church receptionist working in the church office for 12 years.

Jo passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband Harry, of Orangevale, by her daughter Kim Cole and husband Jim, of Cypress; her daughter Patricia Jo Goettsch and husband Bob, of Fair Oaks; granddaughter Jamie Dorn and husband Dallas, of Carmichael; grandson James Cole, of Cypress, granddaughter Julie Gray and husband Casey of Cypress; great-grandson Oliver Craig Gray; her sister Martha Kellogg and husband Russell of Salinas; brother-in-law Lorry Hutton and wife Dolores of Atwater; sisters-in-law Marlene Peltier and husband Dutch of Grand Junction, Colorado; Heather Hoffmiester and husband Carleton of Rifle, Colorado; and Hallie Holl and husband Bob of Merced. Jo’s son, Craig, preceded his mother in death when he was but seventeen.

Services and burial will be in Fair Oaks, California, on August 9.
