Rifle church holds fundraiser for sick member

Open Door Church in Rifle will host a spaghetti dinner Saturday, with donations going to local Brad Redding to help cover living and medical expenses.

Redding, a 56-year-old husband and father, lost his leg to cancer in his youth and is now struggling with a shoulder injury and is looking for a neurosurgeon willing to operate on a noncancerous tumor in his brain stem.

He moved to the area in 1998 with his wife, D’etta. The pair have been married 37 years and have two children, one of whom has also fought cancer. Redding credited D’etta with helping him through years of challenges.

“It happens to her every time it happens to me,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude for the support of his church.

“They’re fantastic,” he said.

Friend Maxine Romero, who helped plan the event, described Redding as “a real inspiration.”

“Through all he’s been through, he has a great attitude and can still joke about his missing leg and laugh,” she wrote. “Above all, he has maintained his faith in God.”

The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at 1420 Access Road in Rifle.
