1 killed in I-70 rollover early Sunday near Silt

Staff Report

A 24-year-old Silt resident, David Greenawald, was killed early Sunday when he was ejected during a one-car rollover accident on westbound Interstate 70 near Silt.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, troopers were called to the scene at 2:23 a.m. at milepost 98, just east of Silt, and found him lying in the median near a wrecked 2001 Volkswagen Passat. Greenawald, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Garfield County coroner.

The State Patrol said in a news release that the car veered onto the right shoulder when the driver steered back across the westbound lanes into the median. The car spun clockwise then rolled one-and-a-half times, landing on its roof.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle during the wreck, the patrol said.
