Elected officials meet to discuss RFTA access plan

Garfield County commissioners are hosting a joint meeting with Glenwood Springs and Carbondale elected officials at 6 p.m. today to consider formal comments on the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s draft Access Control Plan.

The meeting will take place at the Glenwood Springs Community Center, 100 Wulfsohn Road. Representatives from the town of New Castle, which is a member of RFTA, have also been invited, and the meeting is open to the public.

Citizens are encouraged to attend and offer their comments on the plan as well.

The access plan has come under criticism by some local government officials due to proposed restrictions and new design requirements for new crossings of the former railroad corridor that stretches between Glenwood Springs and Aspen.

RFTA officials are also expected to attend the meeting tonight to answer any questions and clarify issues that arise. The public comment period for the updated access plan has been extended until May 9.
