Two Montrose residents are still in serious condition after their motorcycle crashed on Interstate 70 eastbound last Friday evening.

Craig Cox, 45, and Jill Cox, 48, were riding a 2009 Harley Davidson in the left lane when they made a right lane change near mile marker 114. Craig, the driver, lost control, and they struck a guardrail.

Both were thrown from the motorcycle, and the motorcycle continued down the road. The first reports of an accident came in at 5:57 p.m. Friday.

Both were wearing helmets at the time. No alcohol or drugs are suspected, according to Colorado State Patrol Sergeant Rob Madden, but the ongoing investigation is looking into excessive speed as a factor.

Craig Cox was flown to Denver to be treated for his injuries, and Jill Cox was transported to Valley View Hospital by the Glenwood Springs Fire Department.

Bystanders at the scene initiated bleeding control until fire department personnel arrived, said Glenwood Springs Fire Department Lieutenant Jesse Hood in a press release.

Initial reports indicated that a semi-trailer may have hit the motorcycle, but it was a one-vehicle accident.
