Alvin George Hansen

Alvin G. Hansen, 67, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction following a brief illness.

Born on March 2, 1948, to Richard “Joe” Hansen and Lois Hatch Hansen, Alvin attended schools on Divide Creek and graduated from Rifle High School in 1966. Further education resulted in an AAS degree in gunsmithing from Trinidad State Junior College in 1968 and a BS degree in industrial manufacturing and welding from the University of Southern Colorado in 1971.

Following his college graduation, Alvin served in the US Army from 1971 to 1973, and was a member of Charlie Company (Airborne), 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry, stationed at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, AK.

Upon discharge from the Army, Alvin managed the 400+ acre Loring farm/ranch on Silt Mesa for the next fifteen years, followed by training with H-S Precision in Prescott, AZ as a precision rifling operator for the specialty weapons manufacturer. The company ultimately relocated to South Dakota instead of their original location Garfield County. Later employment included time at UNOCAL as a mine utility crewman until closure of the plant, as well as manager of Garfield Livestock Market in Silt and his current position as a local delivery driver for Master Petroleum in Silt and Meeker. He took a lot of pride in keeping his many farm/ranch customers in fuel during these years.

Alvin married Linda Pretti Hansen on April 10, 1971, and they had two sons — James Michael and Craig Alvin.

Alvin’s hobbies included hunting and taking care of his beloved mini farm/ranch located at Antlers. He was well-known in the community for his farming skills. He also served many years as a livestock leader for the Rifle Ag 4-H Club, and as ringman for the annual 4-H livestock sale for more than 30 years. Other volunteer services included more than ten years as President of the Grand River Ditch Company.

He is survived by his wife of more than 44 years, Linda, sons Mike (Raquel) of Grand Junction, CO and Craig of Wichita, KS, granddaughters Brittany (Cory), Kortney and Jamee all of Grand Junction, as well as great-granddaughters Lylee and Jennavieve. Brother, Glenn Hansen, of Wray, CO, also survives.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 1:00 PM at the Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Rifle, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garfield Country 4-H Council, P.O. Box 1112, Rifle, CO 81650 or charity of your choice.
