Relax post-holiday at the Downtown Market

From 4-8 p.m. July 9, join friends and neighbors at Glenwood’s Downtown Market in Centennial Park at Ninth and Grand. Relax after the holiday weekend, listen to music, enjoy a cooking demo and shop for local products for a summer meal.

Many of you have enjoyed Will’s fresh bread and pastries at our market. He has been selling breads and pastries for longer than 13 years at farmer’s markets, festivals and holiday shows throughout Colorado and Wyoming. His baked goods are made fresh daily and will bring a taste of Europe to your table. Two of my favorites are his apple strudel and the rye swirl bread. Will says he appreciates the teamwork that it takes to make the Glenwood Market great for him.

Rob and Debbie Kimball own and operate 5680’ Vineyards in Paonia. This is their second season at the Glenwood market. Their first vintage was in 2005. They feel that the crisp mountain air, clear intense sunlight and pure water of the Colorado high country combine to provide their grapes with one of the most unique set of growing conditions in the world. Their pinot noir, chardonnay and syrah are truly handgrown and handmade.

Michelle Zinanti has been displaying pottery artistically at the market with bread from Will and wine from 5680’ Vineyards. It is easy to visualize her table settings in your own backyard. Michelle’s “harvest pottery” celebrates pumpkins, melon and squash shapes by smoothing clay around their forms. Each piece has an inviting quality that you can enjoy at your table year-round. Michele has participated in the first four weeks of the market season. Although she will not be showing her work this week, you can find her pottery at her studio in Carbondale, www.harvestpottery.com.

Tom Boas moved to Glenwood Springs in 1976 with the Cabe/Simmons Food and Beverage company, serving the Hotel Colorado and the Hotel Denver. After leaving Glenwood Springs and returning in 2004, Tom continued to pursue culinary projects as a career hobby. Tom will be preparing his “Corn Boat” recipe at this Tuesday’s cooking demonstration, starting at 5:30 p.m. The recipe will include several of the fresh vegetables featured at the market. The “Corn Boats” were recently highlighted at the Wine and Food event for the Glenwood Center for the Arts.

Classical and folk guitarist Dwight Ferrin is the featured musician in the music tent this week. Dwight plays original solo instrumental arrangements of many classic tunes from the ’50s through the ’80s. Ferrin will provide a relaxing musical experience from 5:30-8 p.m. Our music sponsor this week is Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse.

Stop by the market booth this week if you need to purchase tokens with you debit or charge cards to spend with our vendors. Thanks to Alpine Bank, we can provide this service and we can also accept EBT cards for SNAP benefits. The Snap benefits are doubled by Slow Food Roaring Fork at our market. Garfield County is continuing to provide funds for the WIC program and for Senior and Veterans programs so they can enjoy fresh healthy foods from our growers.

The Glenwood’s Downtown Market board, all our vendors and our sponsors want to thank the valley residents that have filled the park and 9th Street for the first four weeks of our market season.
