Week five of the Glenwood Springs Summer of Music Series at Two Rivers Park boasts the horn driven “jump blues” stylings of “Chris Daniels & the Kings,” headlining the series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Opening for the series this week at 6:30 p.m. is local high school success story the No Joes, providing our community with one of the most unforgettable shows of the season.
Chris Daniels and the Kings
Creatively collaborating since 1984, Chris Daniels and the Kings have had a 29-year legacy of packing famous regional venues such as the Red Rocks Amphitheater and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. They have also toured in South America, Curaçao, Japan, Europe and the Netherlands, presenting to the world the best of Colorado style swing and R&B music.
In 1984 the Denver-based band was aptly named “Chris Daniels and the R&B Kings” but soon after shortened to “Chris Daniels & the Kings.”
You may be familiar with the song that put them on the national charts, “When You’re Cool,” off of their first album, released in 1987. Critically acclaimed worldwide and 13 albums later, the music created by Chris Daniels & the Kings has been loved by people spanning the globe for more than four generations.
Now Glenwood Springs has a chance to hear the music that made the world fall in love. Its one big jazzy, blues driven, soul train of jump jams headed straight to Two Rivers Park. You will hear a blend of original music and dance-able covers as Chris Daniels & the Kings steal your hearts, too.
The band: Chris Daniels, director, guitar, vocals, rhythm; Colin “Bones” Jones, lead guitar; Chris Stongle, drums, vocals; Kevin “Bro” Lege, bass, vocals; Darryl “Doody” Abrahamson, trumpet, vocals; and Jim Waddell, alto, tenor sex, flute, vocals.
