Glenwood Springs has been nominated again in Rand McNally’s Best of the Road competition, and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and the Historic Fairy Caves are in the running for VirtualTourist’s 8th Wonder of the World contest.
Public voting is open in both contests and people are encouraged to vote early and often, as frequently as every 24 hours. Vote for Glenwood Springs in the Best of the Road contest at bestoftheroad.com through Sept. 3, and vote for Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and Historic Fairy Caves for 8th Wonder of the World at www.virtualtourist.com/8thwonder until Sept. 30.
Mapmaker Rand McNally put the town on the map in a big way in 2011 when it named Glenwood Springs America’s Most Fun Town. Now, just two years later, Glenwood Springs is once again competing in the Best of the Road competition and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and Historic Fairy Caves have been nominated as a contender in the “8th Wonder of the World” contest sponsored by VirtualTourist, a leading travel research website and community that is part of TripAdvisor Media Group.
“I believe Glenwood Springs is a strong competitor in both contests,” said Lisa Langer, vice president of tourism marketing for the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association. “Whether it’s on the earth, in the air or on the water, Glenwood Springs is all about having fun outdoors.”
Best of the Road 2013 is a competition to name the best small town in America in six categories: most beautiful, most fun, most patriotic, friendliest, best food and best for geocaching. This year, 844 towns across the country are vying for the top title in each of the six categories, as Glenwood Springs chases the title of Most Fun once again.
The Fairy Caves, as they were originally called, were marketed as the eighth wonder of the world as long ago as 1897. It seems fitting that, more than a century later, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and Historic Fairy Caves are participating in a contest that crowns the winner with that title. In addition to being named 8th Wonder of the World, VirtualTourist’s winner will be featured in a nationally broadcast TV segment on a popular syndicated program, and will receive a massive media relations campaign push from VirtualTourist. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and Historic Fairy Caves are among more than 300 destinations worldwide competing for the title.
