TreadZ in Glenwood Springs will host a fundraising event to benefit Big City Mountaineers from 5-7 p.m. today.
TreadZ owner Jon Zalinski will present a slideshow of his Mt. Shuksan summit as part of the Summit for Someone program. There will also be a silent auction to support Jon in his efforts to raise funds on behalf of Big City Mountaineers.
TreadZ vendors that have donated items for the silent auction include Ibex, Icebreaker, Horny Toad, Merrell, Kuhl, Nau, Oboz, Salomon and more.
The funds raised during the event will go directly to Big City Mountaineers. It is Zalinski’s hope to raise enough funds to help reach six at-risk teens nationwide and give them the opportunity to have a backcountry experience.
“I had the opportunity to visit Colorado from Chicago during my teen years and it changed my life,“ he said.
Big City Mountaineers is a non-profit organization based in Golden dedicated to bringing at-risk teens into the outdoors through wilderness mentoring programs. The programs are funded through a fundraising climb series called Summit for Someone. Each year, individuals volunteer to be a Summit for Someone climber and ascend some of the world’s most breathtaking mountains in an effort to raise funds for the Big City Mountaineers programs.
This year Zalinski, was a Summit for Someone climber. On Sept. 8, he summited one of North Americas most sought after peaks, Mt. Shuksan in North Cascades National Park, Washington.
