Amendment 66 rally planned in Glenwood Springs Saturday

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — The Colorado Commits to Kids campaign will be in Glenwood Springs Saturday to share information and rally in support of Amendment 66, the state K-12 education funding question that is on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The rally will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library, 815 Cooper Ave., as part of the statewide “Back Our Schools Day” effort. Similar rallies are taking place throughout the state.

Local speakers will address Amendment 66 and what it would mean for local schools and public education funding statewide.

The measure proposes an increase in the state income tax that would raise approximately $950 million annually, and would dedicate 43 percent of the state’s general fund to K-12 education.

As proposed, the money would boost per-pupil funding for school districts across the state, pay for new early childhood programs including full-day kindergarten, and set up an accountability system for the public to track the academic performance of individual schools and school districts.
