RIFLE — A fire early Tuesday morning caused major structural damage to two homes here, rendering them uninhabitable, according to Colorado River Fire Rescue.
About 20 firefighters and eight firefighting vehicles from CRFR responded to the call at 12:34 a.m. on Fairway Avenue. The fire began outside of the back of one house and was pushed quickly into the attic of the home and a neighboring home by high winds.
Residents of both homes evacuated immediately, and no injuries were reported.
Both homes received major damage to at least half of the structure and each sustained a partial roof collapse. The fire was contained by approximately 1:40 a.m., and overhaul operations ended about four hours later.
Rifle Police Department, Xcel Energy and The American Red Cross also responded to assist residents and fire crews.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
