Step into the holiday season with the Danse Arts Theatre presentation of “Stepping into Christmas” this weekend and next at the Carbondale Middle School. This holiday show features excerpts from the Nutcracker, holiday songs and dance, and is an uplifting entry into the holiday season.
The collaborative show marks a first for the local dance scene. When Jeni Ptacek of the Crystal River Ballet saw that the Glenwood Dance Academy was hosting its show in Carbondale this year she contacted Deanna Anderson, owner of the Glenwood Dance Academy, about a potential collaboration.
“When Jeni suggested the collaboration, I thought, ‘What a fantastic idea,’” Anderson said. “Normally, many dance programs are at odds with one another in competition, particularly, in such a small valley.”
The teaming up of these two companies also renews the partnership between Ptacek and Dina Duckworth, a longtime instructor at the Glenwood Dance Academy. Ptacek and Duckworth both danced with the Aspen Ballet, formerly the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. During a recent rehearsal, the creative energy between the two of them was filled with ”do you remember when” and “maybe we could try this.”
In addition to the shortened version of the Nutcracker, the show also features local singers Ron Milhorn, Jamie Spry and Jason Young.
Anderson said, “We wanted a show that not only featured dance but also offered a complete holiday experience with your favorite holiday songs. Stepping into Christmas is a show for the entire family.”
Show times are 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7, 13 and 14 with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Tickets are available at the door, $15 for adults and $10 for kids and seniors.
