GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Garfield County commissioners on Monday unanimously approved the rezoning of two properties west of Parachute from commercial to industrial.
The so-called Travelers Highland subdivision, which also has its own special public improvements district that is overseen by the county commissioners, becomes one of just a handful of industrially zoned parcels in the county.
Commissioners said the rezoning of the site, which is situated between Interstate 70 and Highway 6 near the new West Parachute interchange, as well as an adjacent five-acre parcel owned by John Strong, makes sense.
“There are not a lot of industrial sites within Garfield County,” Commissioner Tom Jankovsky said, adding the area meets the criteria for industrial zoning based on the existing uses already located there.
Property owners in the subdivision, which includes a mix of retail, commercial and light-industrial businesses, supported the change, as did the county’s planning commission.
