Multi-vehicle crash closes I-70 near Glenwood

A multi-vehicle crash closed westbound Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday. Nobody was injured in the four-vehicle crash, which included three semi-trucks and a passenger van, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Just before 8 p.m., an empty tanker — driven by 41-year-old Mohamed Diawara, of Denver — lost control on the icy roads near mile marker 118, which is approximately two miles east of the Glenwood Springs exit. Diawara’s trailer then jackknifed and caused three vehicles to crash behind him, blocking all lanes of westbound I-70.

Diawara was cited for careless driving and then released.

Westbound traffic was forced to exit at Dotsero during the closure. The road reopened at approximately 10 p.m. The Colorado Department of Transportation and the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Colorado State Patrol with the road closure.

Blaine Ward Towing recovered two tractor-trailers that were involved. The other two vehicles were driven from the scene.
