Glenwood Springs Ford finishes exterior, showroom 'face-lift'

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — One of the oldest automobile dealerships along West Glenwood’s auto row has completed a makeover, including a spruced-up showroom and shiny new exterior.

Glenwood Springs Ford recently unveiled what had been going on beneath a construction tent for the past several months until the work was completed just before the first of the year.

The work involved a complete “reskinning” of the exterior of the building, including new metal panels and signs on the east side of the building where the main showroom entrance is located, according to Steve Nilsson, general manager and part owner of the local Ford dealership.

“The building is 28 years old, and it really needed a face-lift,” Nilsson said. “The timing was right for us, and we’re pleased to be able to give our customers a much friendlier facility to come into.”

Though the new showroom is not larger than the old one in terms of floor space, it appears a lot larger and brighter after the ceiling was raised, and new ceiling tiles and lighting were installed, Nilsson said.

“We also removed the old HVAC [heating, ventilation and cooling] system and put in a more efficient system,” he said.

“A big shout-out to the members of our sales staff who had to operate under a tent and in temporary quarters all summer and into the fall,” he said.

Ford Co. was a financial partner in the design and construction of the new space, Nilsson said.

His father, Jack Nilsson, first purchased the local Ford dealership in 1978. Current majority owner Jeff Carlson later bought into the business and is now partners with Steve Nilsson at Glenwood Ford.

The remodel project is another in a series of new additions, renovations and relocations in the local automobile dealership lineup in Glenwood Springs.

Most recently, the new High Country Honda dealership opened in West Glenwood just before the first of the year. That was preceded earlier in 2013 by the opening of the newly expanded Berthod Motors Chrysler, Dodge/Ram and Jeep dealership on 27th Street, the relocation of Bighorn Toyota from the central part of town to West Glenwood, and the opening of the new Mountain Chevrolet dealership at the end of 2012, also in West Glenwood.

“The timing was right for us, and we’re pleased to be able to give our customers a much friendlier facility to come into.”
