Town elections gear up in Carbondale, New Castle and Silt

Spring is right around the corner, and for much of the Roaring Fork Valley that can only mean one thing — municipal elections.

If you’re interested in serving on a town board in Carbondale, Silt or Parachute, you can pick up your nomination petitions starting today for the April 1 elections. New Castle’s election will be on April 7 and their petitions will be available on Feb. 7.

Rifle and Glenwood Springs are not holding elections.

Carbondale

Three trustees and the mayor’s seat are up for election on April 1. They are currently held by Mayor Stacey Bernot and trustees John Foulkrod, Frosty Merriott and Elizabeth Murphy. There are no ballot questions. Nomination petitions must have 25 valid signatures and be turned to the clerk by Feb. 20.

The election is a mail ballot election and is being run by Garfield County. For more information, call the town clerk at 510-1206.

New Castle

The seats held by Mayor Frank Breslin and trustees Art Riddile, Bruce Leland and Greg Russi are up for election on April 8. There are no ballot questions. Nomination petitions will be available on Feb. 7 and should be returned to the clerk by Feb. 27.

Voters can cast their ballots at voter services centers in Rifle at the county building at 144 E. Third St. or at the county building in Glenwood Springs at 109 Eighth St. until the day of the election. The election is being run by Garfield County. Silt

The seats held by Mayor Dave Moore and trustees Rick Aluise, Bryan Fleming and Paul Taylor are up for election on April 1. All seats are for a four-year term.

Potential ballot questions have not been finalized, but an ordinance to put the positions of the town clerk, police chief and town treasurer under the town administrator instead of town board members was passed on first reading at the Jan. 27 regular board meeting and will be on the ballot if approved at the next meeting.

Nomination petitions for the mail ballot election must be returned to the clerk by Feb. 20. For more information, call the town clerk at 876-2353.

Parachute

The mayor’s seat and three trustee positions are up for election on April 1. The seats are currently held by Mayor Judith Beasley and trustees Candy Allbee, Tom Rugaard and John Yadloskey. There are no ballot questions.

This is a polling place election and votes can be cast at Parachute Town Hall, 222 Grand Valley Way. For more information, contact the town clerk at 285-7630.

All those seeking election must be at least 18 years of age, a one-year resident of their municipality and a registered voter.
