Michael Lawrence Zerfoss

The world felt a great loss in this young year, and although Michael Lawrence Zerfoss has moved beyond our physical world, his spirit, and more importantly, his family, remains with us every day — in our hearts, in our minds, and in the sound of his child’s laughter.

Michael Lawrence Zerfoss was born July 9, 1987, and passed away the morning of January 18, 2015. He was 27 years young. “Mikey” was born in Boulder, Colorado, grew up in Glenwood Springs, and lived with his wife and two children in Denver until the time of his death. The hand of light came down and took Mikey’s last breath in his sleep, forcing the beat of his enormous, giving heart to finally cease. However, Michael will be with us forever.

Fortunately, Mike will never actually leave us — although, what he left us with was an example of how to love — unconditionally and profoundly. Michael loved his family more than anything else in the world — he worshiped the ground upon which they walked every waking moment of his life, and would stop at nothing to help them all achieve their personal well being and happiness. His dedication to his family and friends, to the game of football, and to wrestling will forever be heard in the crowds’ roar, in every stadium and in every arena in which he ever played.

Michael is survived by his wife, Rita Zerfoss, his two sons, Sebastian and Mike Zerfoss, his mother Sally Kilton, his father Scott Zerfoss, his sister Annalise Appel, his brother Guy-Ryan Zerfoss, among many others in his huge, extended family, and not to mention the thousands of people that had the opportunity to have been graced by his presence.

Together, we can make a difference. Please, help support Michael’s wife, Rita Zerfoss, and their two sons, Sebastian and ‘lil Mike, pick themselves up and step forward into the future, successfully. After a tragic loss of this magnitude, we the village, must join together with open arms and embrace this family in loving support. Mike would have it no other way!

Anything will help, and everyone is thanked in advance. We can each make a difference in the world today. Please, donate at https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/myd7/the-michael-zerfoss-family-fund or ANY Wells Fargo Bank in the United States under the Mike Zerfoss Memorial Fund.

“It takes a village to raise a child” – African Proverb.

That proverb holds more truth in our lives today than it ever has in the past. A woman and her two children need their village now. Thank you for being a part of Rita Zerfoss’ support system.

Michael’s memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Glenwood Springs High School Football Stadium. Please join us to celebrate his life, and the legacy that follows.
