The Harvey Gap Road north of Silt was closed at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday from Odin Drive to the Harvey Gap swim beach due to road damage caused by a breached ditch that leads out of the reservoir.

According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office the road began washing away and its overall integrity is compromised.

“It is unknown at this time how long the closure will last,” a Sheriff’s Office news release said.

Garfield County Road and Bridge has been notified and will be assessing the road damage and developing a course of action, the release said.

“People should plan alternative routes east through New Castle or west along the Rifle Gap Road and back through Rifle if the road remains closed,” it said.

Motorists are advised to allow adequate time for travel.

“This may affect commuters, local residents and school bus traffic tomorrow and possibly longer,” the release concluded. “Please plan accordingly.”
