“Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.”

You can’t go wrong agreeing with Einstein, and that is exactly what we do at the Center for the Arts. We explore the possibilities, question the process, arrive at the answer and take the next step. Whether it’s a new exhibit, new class, new collaboration or new location, we always ask the question, “What’s next?”

OH, THIS IS DEFINITELY ALL ABOUT YOU

Enjoy an incredibly self-centered evening and join us for our first exhibit of 2015: the Selfie Revolution! The artists’ reception starts today at 5:30 p.m. with selfies projected onto the wall, a photo booth to capture the moment and tasty treats. Bring your friends and take the guilt out of unbridled ego.

YOUR CANVAS IS WAITING FOR YOU

Come by the Center for the Arts and pick up your canvas for our amazing 6×6 Exhibit — truly a community art exhibit. We launched this last year, and it was a triumph. We give you a 6-inch-by-6-inch canvas, and you make your masterpiece in oil, acrylic, mixed media or anything your creative mind can produce. You agree to create your showstopper and return it to us for our fundraising exhibit. The submission deadline is Feb. 2 with an opening night artists’ reception at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. Last year’s event produced some astonishing work. Everyone is welcome — professional, amateur and anyone with a desire to have a great experience and support the Center for the Arts at the same time. Call your friends and family and tell them to come by the Center to pick up their canvas.

PAINTING PAGES ON TUESDAYS AT YOUR LIBRARY

Are we excited about this one! Our next collaboration with the Glenwood Springs Library begins at 4 p.m. this Tuesday and continues every second Tuesday throughout the year. We will read a story, and then the kids will paint a picture of what they have heard. This free, after-school program is open to all kids from K – 5th grade.

OUR NEW DANCE ANNEX

We have been testing the theory of relativity for a long time. In our case, X = number of students, Y= number of square footage, and the latest result is: more space needed. We now have it with our new dance annex located the former Satya Yoga Studio at 14th and Grand across from City Market. We will be letting you know the class schedule soon.

EINSTEIN HAD MAURINE IN MIND

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”

My work at the Center is my passion, and I could not conceive of making a creative dance decision without the counsel, advice and insight of my colleague and dear friend, Maurine Taufer.

Maurine’s training in dance began with designing and teaching at the Children’s Dance Theatre at the University of Utah, where she continued teaching, directing and choreographing for 22 years. She moved to Glenwood Springs in 1981 and taught dance and fitness for 15 years at Colorado Mountain College. Then it was on to the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts, where she has directed and choreographed her dancers as they have performed throughout the Valley.

Expanding to our new Dance Annex is the direct result of Maurine’s exceptional level of excellence and her success in growing our thriving youth dance companies and children’s classes.

Maurine’s commitment to our dance program is unparalleled and, for me, it is a rare and wonderful experience to share the vision. Maurine is a “singular sensation, every move that she makes.”

See you tonight!
