CPR Classical presents expanded ‘SummerFest’ Concert Series for 2014
July 3, 2014
Colorado Public Radio's classical service presents the 2014 "SummerFest" concert series with its most expansive lineup to date. Running June 28 through Aug. 17, the series includes seven live broadcasts, in-studio performances and exclusive interviews from Colorado's top classical music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Bravo! Vail and Central City Opera.
"Colorado is a leading destination for the world's best classical musicians each summer, and as the go-to source for the state's classical community, we're offering unprecedented access to all of these performances — from the world-renowned Aspen Music Festival and Bravo! Vail to the many local favorites all along the Front Range," said Monika Vischer, CPR's classical program director. "During our biggest season yet, listeners can expect to hear more broadcasts than ever before, plus exclusive insights into the music through interviews and CPR Performance Studio sessions."
Some highlights of the season include eight Saturday night broadcasts, including live performances of the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York Philharmonic from Bravo! Vail and a live July Fourth celebration from the Aspen Music Festival, a production from Aspen Public Radio that will feature patriotic favorites by John Phillip Sousa and Irving Berlin. New this year, CPR Classical will also showcase a Tuesday night chamber music series that highlights intimate performances captured from Vail's Donovan Pavilion and Harris Hall in Aspen.
Other notable artists in the "SummerFest" concert series include: string and percussion ensembles the Emerson String Quartet, Calder Quartet and Third Coast Percussion; violinists Joshua Bell and Gil Shaham; pianist Yefim Bronfman; and Bravo Vail Artistic Director and pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.
The "SummerFest" concert series kicks off on June 28 at 8 p.m. with a live broadcast of Central City Opera's "The Marriage of Figaro" with host Charley Samson.
