Southern rock act closes out Grande River concert series Aug. 15

It’s not too late to catch the final concert of Grande River Vineyards’ “Hear it Through the Grapevine” series, starring the Remus Tucker Band Thursday, Aug. 15, at the winery’s outdoor venue in Palisade.

Lead vocalist Remus Tucker founded the Southern rock and blues band in 2009 to help keep the genre he grew up with stay alive, he said.

The Denver-based band performs original material, written mostly by Tucker and slide guitarist and fellow vocalist “Uncle Otis.”

“The songs are basically pulled out of our own lives,” Tucker said. “It’s down-home, Southern rock stuff, about things that have touched us personally over the years.”

And, it’s “definitely dancing music” — as in the style of the Allman Brothers or the Marshall Tucker Band, Tucker said.

Although not a cover band, “occasionally we do covers if we’re feeling blown that way,” Tucker said, which might include a Lynyrd Skynyrd or Led Zeppelin tune.

Currently signed to Graystone Records, the group has one album, “South of New Orleans,” and is working on a second.

Other band members include lead and rhythm guitar and back-up vocalist Cousin Moze, lead guitar player P.D. Smith, bass guitarist Professor Cletis “Underfoot” Norwood Tucker, drummer Jefferson Alligator Garfish Guard and female vocalist Reggie Rae Lynn.

The band performs internationally and around the country, typically at festivals and large venues, including in Europe and Australia. According to the group’s website they have performed with the group Firefall and John Lee Hooker Jr.

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Palisade Chamber of Commerce.

Grande River Vineyards wine by the glass or bottle will be for sale, as well as a “full Southern barbecue dinner” catered by Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes. No outside beverages are allowed. Free water will be available.

Concert-goers should bring lawn chairs and blankets.
