Roice-Hurst celebrates 50 years of homeless pet care in the Grand Valley with fundraising event

In celebration of Roice-Hurst Humane Society’s golden birthday — 50 years of community service — organizers will host a “roundup” fundraising event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Saturday, Sept. 7.

“Fifty years — that’s huge,” Roice-Hurst Board President Julie Butherus said. “I think a lot of people in the Grand Valley have adopted pets from the Roice-Hurst over the years.”

The Roice-Hurst Roundup will kick off at 6 p.m., with cocktails, a sit-down dinner, music, dancing and a silent auction, organizers noted. Tickets are $60 per person, and casual attire is suggested.

“Just come in your jeans,” Butherus said.

For the silent auction component, a main draw will be “50 pieces of artwork valued at $50 each, donated by Colorado artists and sponsored by Oakley Gallery,” a news release explained.

The event will also feature an informal program in which volunteers integral to Roice-Hurst’s operations will be recognized.

“We would love to raise $20,000,” Butherus added. “All funds would go directly back to pet care.”

Pre-registration for this event is suggested by Wednesday, Sept. 4. Tickets may be purchased Chow Down Pet Supplies in the Redlands and Fruita, Fisher’s Liquor Barn in Grand Junction, and at Roice-Hurst Humane Society (at or at the shelter — 362 28 Road).
