Local woman charged in I-70 wreck

Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Glenwood Springs police have charged a teen driver with careless driving causing injury in the wake of an accident on Monday that closed the westbound lanes of I-70 for two hours.

Taylor B. Worrell, 19, of Glenwood Springs, entered the eastbound lanes of I-70 at the West Glenwood 114 interchange at 2 p.m.. She allegedly drove across both lanes of traffic, cutting off an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Lewis Walker, 58, of Las Vegas, according to Glenwood Springs Police Lt. Bill Kimminau.

Walker tried to swerve the truck to avoid Worrell’s sedan, Kimminau said, but lost control of the truck, hit Worrell’s car, and pushed it across the median into the westbound lanes.

Walker’s truck overturned onto its left side, blocking both westbound lanes, but did not crush the car.

Both drivers were injured and taken to Valley View Hospital, but both were released on Tuesday, according to the hospital.

The accident caused a lengthy back-up on westbound I-70, which resulted in a crash among four semi-trucks in the No Name Tunnel at 2:30 p.m. That crash forced a closure of westbound I-70 from Dotsero to Glenwood Springs that lasted until around 8 p.m. Monday.
