Alpine Bank matches gift to benefit Denney

Alpine Bank is matching the fundraising efforts of the Glenwood Springs Basketball Officials Association (GSBOA) with a gift of $5,000, for the benefit of Glenwood Springs High School athletic director Craig Denney.
The GSBOA ran a campaign during the recent basketball season at high school games from Aspen to Rifle and Glenwood Springs to Vail. In total, the GSBOA raised $5,735. The entire gift of $10,735 will help to offset Denney’s significant medical and living expenses since he was diagnosed with cancer last fall.
“People in our communities have big hearts, and Craig is a loved and respected teacher, coach and athletic director,” says Jay Rickstrew, regional president of the Colorado River Valley region of Alpine Bank. “The outpouring of support was so moving. We feel privileged to help Craig on the road to recovery and healing with this matching grant.”
Rickstrew is also a longstanding volunteer basketball official with the GSBOA.
The GSBOA customarily “passes the hat” in the stands during games, with collections historically donated to the American Cancer Society. This past season, the GSBOA obtained permission to earmark the funds for Denney, who was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma in November 2013. He underwent chemotherapy treatments through January, and is now recovering at home.
Denney will slowly resume his work schedule at the high school this spring.
