Good Samaritan shot on Highway 13 north of Rifle
July 18, 2016
Just past midnight Saturday, a 31-year-old man attempting to be a good Samaritan was shot on Highway 13 near mile marker nine.
The victim told investigators that he’d stopped on the highway to help a red vehicle pulled over with its lights flashing.
When he approached, he was shot in the torso by someone in the vehicle.
He was able to get back in his car and drive about four miles to Rifle Fireside Lanes and call authorities.
He was later taken to Grand River Hospital by ambulance, then to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction by medical flight.
“This is an active case with continued investigation,” the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 970-945-0453.
