RIFLE — A 29-year-old Glenwood Springs woman was seriously injured Thursday evening in rollover crash east of Rifle on Interstate 70, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday on westbound I-70, three miles east of Rifle, when Jesse Wanner, 35, of Rifle, lost control of a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer, the State Patrol said in news release issued later in the evening.
The vehicle overturned multiple times off the right side of the interstate. Four occupants in the vehicle, including two male passengers, walked away with minor injuries. The female passenger was transported to Grand River Hospital with serious injuries.
All occupants appeared to be wearing their safety belts, the Patrol said.
Wanner also was transported to Grand River with serious injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but alcohol and excessive speed are being considered possible contributing factors.
Patrol officials said Wanner potentially faces felony vehicular assault and other charges.
Westbound Interstate 70 was closed for approximately 45 minutes during the investigation. Traffic was diverted at Exit 94 during the closure.
