Ruth Alma Renftle Fender-Scarrow

Ruth Scarrow, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Clifton, CO on March 2, 2015. She was born on April 24, 1928 in Glenwood Springs, CO to Charles and Ima (McLaughlin) Renftle. As a child, she attended school in a one room country school at Crystal Spring and graduated from high school in Glenwood Springs.

She married Harold E. Fender on September 1, 1945. They ranched on Missouri Heights near El Jebel, CO. They had two sons, Gary and Marvin. They later divorced.

Ruth was a real estate broker. She started her company “Thunder River Realty” in Carbondale, later owned “Fender Realty”. She served as president of the Upper Colorado Board of Realtors and also was an officer in the Farm & Ranch division of the Colorado Board of Realtors.

Ruth and Bob Scarrow married on June 27, 1992. She loved to entertain her friends. She loved dancing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and most important, her mountain cabin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters: Lillian Berges and Kathryn Grange and brother, Harvey Renftle. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Scarrow, sons Gary (Linda) Fender and Marvin (Roberta) Fender and stepson Don (Kim) Scarrow. There are 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grand child.

Memorial contributions can be made in Ruth’s name to the charity of your choice.

Memorial service will be at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015.

Cremation has taken place and internment will be at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs following the memorial service.
