Leonard C. Zanni

Leonard Curtis Zanni died on March 12, 2015, in Carbondale, Colorado. He was born in Doylestown, PA, in 1943 and graduated from Central Bucks High School, The Malvern School and Villanova University with a degree in finance. Len moved to River Valley Ranch in Carbondale in 2006 from Morristown, NJ, where he had resided for 38 years. He worked in New York City for several investment banking firms as a trader and salesman in their fixed income departments with a specialty in preferred stocks. He retired in 2004 after a 36-year career on Wall Street and many train rides. Len is survived by his wife Grace (nee Mendres), his beloved son Leonard Curtis Zanni Jr. and daughter-in-law Jeanne, and two cherished grandchildren, Grace Catherine and Leonard Curtis III, all of Carbondale. He always used to say that he wanted to be just like his son. In fact, Len was very much like his son and very much like his father. Grace’s sister and husband, Maureen and Richard Ward of Alexandria, VA, were very close to Len and mourn his loss. Len is survived by many friends, both old and new and from East to West, and a sister Paula. He is predeceased by his loving parents, Mary and Anthony L. Zanni, MD and a sister Mary.

An avid golfer, Len was a former member of Spring Brook Golf and Country Club in Morristown, NJ. After his retirement he continued to enjoy golf at the River Valley Ranch Golf Club. His favorite winter sport was skiing with friends at Snowmass and Buttermilk Mountains. His other hobbies included reading, traveling and just having fun with his grandchildren. Len was a parishioner at St. Mary of the Crown Catholic Church in Carbondale and served as an usher. His volunteer work included service on the board of the Crystal Bluffs HOA as President and Treasurer. Len was a survivor of the September 11th terror attack on the World Trade Center where he worked on the 55th floor of the South Tower on that infamous day. His family and friends are thankful for the years they had with him.

Len’s favorite saying was “Your word is your bond” and he lived his life accordingly. Len was very proud of his Italian heritage and always toasted a meal with “Cent’anni” which means “To one hundred years of health and happiness!” His loving memory will be honored for a very long time.

A funeral Mass and Celebration of Len’s life will be held at St. Mary of the Crown Church and will be announced at a later date. Donations to the Valley View Hospital Foundation PO Box 1970 in Glenwood Springs, CO 81602 may be made in his memory.
