Hazel Ruth Stayton Lawson

Hazel Ruth Stayton Lawson was born June 16, 1925, near New Castle, Colorado. Ruth passed away August 20, 2015, in Rifle, Colorado. She was the first of four girls born to Wesley and Elsie Stayton. She married Wm. David Lawson in Denver, Colorado, and they had two precious children, Nancy Ruth and David Wesley. She was a lifelong resident of Garfield County except when she followed her husband, Dave, when he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy and Benny Lemon; son, David and Shirley Lawson; sisters: Betty (C.F.) Dawson and Jean (M.J.) Mullenax; six grandchildren: Benjie (Laurie) Lemon, Davina Brower, Matt (Tara) Lemon, Laurie (Dale) Wright, Sunny (Mike) Simons and Brent Lawson; 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, sister, Helen M. Davis, and brother-in-law, Fred Lawson.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 10:00a.m. at Highlands Cemetery in New Castle. A memorial luncheon will take place at 12:00 for all, including those unable to attend the graveside service, at the Rifle Senior Center located at 50 Ute Avenue. In lieu of memorials, please take a family member or friend to lunch.
