Sally Thompson

Sally Thompson, 82, of Glenwood Springs, passed away May 25, 2016 with her family at her side.

Sally was born in Cleveland, Ohio, September 21, 1933, to Ottilia and Irving Gorham. She married Raymond Thompson, June 24, 1949. Ray and Sally settled their family in Glenwood Springs in September 1958. Sally was a founding member of the Glenwood Springs Art Guild, actively supporting the Fall Art Festival and one of two artists to show in the Festival every year. She was a member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and Western Slope Watercolor Society. Her love of art began in junior high. Sally’s artwork graces the walls of many homes and local establishments.

She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for more than forty years, where she was part of the Helping Hands. She was also part of the hospital auxiliary, baking pies yearly for pie days, and knitting booties for the hospital gift shop. She shared the gift of music, singing in church as a youth with her beloved sister Gerry, and her mother. She also played her violin in local ensembles.

Sally was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong partner supporting her husband in his local accounting firm. She raised five children, supporting them in scouting programs, Sunday school, sports, and music. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raymond F. Thompson Jr., her parents, Ottilia and Irving Gorham, and her sister, Gerry Edwards. She is survived by sons Terence of Aurora, Colorado, Jon (Donna) of Omaha, Nebraska, Jeff (Anna) of Coffeyville, Kansas, Joel of Glenwood Springs, and daughter Melanie Halford of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother Adelbert (Louise) Gorham of Minnesota, brother-in-law David Edwards of Elyria, Ohio; grandchildren Monica (Chris), Matt (Brandi), Brian (Laura), Ben (Tiffanie), David (Marcella), Andrew, Jason, Jeremy (Jessica), Sarah, Gretchen (Bobby), Lisel (Geoff), Emily (Chris), Mallory (Alex), and Jordyn; great-grandchildren Quin, James, Sebastian, Laurea, Jack, Leighton, Evelyn, Lavina, Hunter, Henry, Wyatt, Leland, Dylan, Madison, Jordyn, Kobe, Kylie, Evan, Tyler, Abigail, Logan, Elliette, and a soon to be great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; a public viewing will be held at Farnum Holt Funeral Home Tuesday morning from 10:00 until noon. Sally requested that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Valley View Hospital Cardiac Care, or Glenwood Springs Art Guild.
