Colorado Mountain College in Rifle will kickoff the graduation season early in May, with Rifle and Coal Ridge high schools hosting ceremonies later in the month.

CMC’s Rifle campus will host two ceremonies this year, following standing room only at last year’s ceremony.

The first ceremony starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in the Clough Auditorium at the Rifle campus. The ceremony will be followed by a reception. Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

In addition to granting associate degrees, certificates of occupational proficiency and general educational diplomas, or GEDs, this year’s exercise also celebrates the fourth year of students receiving bachelor’s degrees from the college.

This year’s keynote speaker is Colorado Mountain College President and CEO Carrie Besnette Hauser. Hauser will be joined by student speakers Michael Niederkorn and Ronde Crawford.

Niederkorn has earned a certificate of proficiency in nurse aide training, as well as an Associate of Science degree with a biology emphasis. He has been accepted to the University of Colorado School of Nursing. Crawford is receiving a Bachelor of Arts in sustainability studies and a Bachelor of Science in business administration.

In addition, the campus will hold a concurrent enrollment graduation for high school students at the Rifle campus at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 9. The ceremony will acknowledge students earning certificates in basic welding and cutting, basic solar photovoltaic installer, nurse aide training and early childhood education. A reception will follow the ceremony at the Rifle campus.

As for the local high school graduations, Coal Ridge and Rifle high schools both will host their ceremonies on Sunday, May 22. Coal Ridge is scheduled for 10-11:30 a.m. and Rifle is slated for 1-2 p.m.

To the west, Garfield School District 16 will host its graduation Saturday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.
