The Morrow Draw Trail in east Rifle officially opened earlier this month, the Rifle Area Mountain Biking Organization (RAMBO) and the city of Rifle announced.

The trail runs adjacent to Morrow Drive from the corner of Ninth Street and Munro Avenue, and ends at the corner of Birch Avenue and Firethorn Drive. Running approximately three-quarters of a mile in length, the multi-use path spans four to six feet in width and has a gravel surface. The trail is at an easy grade and offers scenic wooded views.

“We are a group of mountain bikers that want to advocate for our sport while giving something back to the community. The Morrow Draw trail isn’t really about mountain biking, it’s about helping the community,” Sean Strode, RAMBO president, said in a press release.

The project was a collaborative effort involving many local entities, including LiveWell Garfield County, Garfield County Board of County Commissioners, the city of Rifle, the Rifle Visitor Improvement Fund Advisory Board, Rifle Regional Economic Development Corp., the Savage family, Gumption Trail Works, B&Y Drilling and community volunteers.

The city of Rifle also installed 400 feet of new sidewalk from the east end of the trail to the corner of Birch Avenue and Firethorn Drive — making the entrance of the trail more accessible. The city also added trees, a picnic table and seeded grass on the west end of the trail.

“This has been in the works for a year and a half with a lot of groups being involved,” Steven Fuller, RAMBO vice president, said in a press release. “It’s inspiring to see the results when a community comes together. Our hope is that this trail becomes a valuable part of our city.”

RAMBO is a group open to the public. Anyone may attend the meetings, join the group or volunteer their time. More information can be found on the group’s Facebook page or by emailing riflemtb@gmail.com.
