Chris Janson will open the 2016 Garfield County Fair and Rodeo Friday night concert in August, solidifying a lineup that officials hope will draw the largest crowd in the fair’s history.

The county officially announced Janson’s addition to this year’s concert lineup earlier this week.

He will open the Friday night show, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 5, with an hourlong set before country musician Josh Turner takes the stage.

A notable country musician and songwriter in his own right, Janson’s self-released single “Buy Me a Boat” rose to No. 4 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart in 2015.

Janson received the iHeartRadio award for country song of the year in 2015, and also was recently nominated for two Academy of Country Music awards, including single record of the year and new male vocalist of the year, according to a press release.

The negotiated agreement with Janson’s representation will pay an amount not to exceed $45,000.

Fair organizers have made a concerted effort in recent years to bring acts with greater name recognition to the annual event at the fairgrounds in Rifle.

Officials credited last year’s performance by Gary Allan for helping make the 2015 fair the most successful one to date.

It set records for ticket revenue, attendance and sponsorships, according to a report released in December. Ticket sales for events in 2015 exceeded the previous year with $121,795 compared with $93,980 in 2014.

Fair officials, in a press release, believe this year’s lineup could lead to a record-setting show.

The 2016 Garfield County Fair is scheduled for Aug. 1-6.

The 3,550 sellable tickets for the Friday concert will range in price from $10 to $60.

Tickets for the concert and other ticketed events — including the PRCA ProRodeo, Xtreme Bulls, a demolition derby and a monster truck show — are set to go on sale June 1 and can be purchased online at http://www.garfieldcountyfair.com.
