A note from the editor…

Back in the saddle…
Well, here I am again! Newspapers are notorious for change and this is one of the latest for The Citizen Telegram. I am now the editor of the paper and many of you might recognize my name from working for the Glenwood Springs Post Independent as well.
I’ve been a reporter in this valley off and on since 1990 and a Rifle resident since 2003, and I’ve seen a lot of changes. Some are good and some not so good. But I’m excited about this new opportunity to provide an interesting and informative weekly publication for you.
Speaking of changes, I’ll be making a few here at the Telegram. I’m adding a Senior News page geared toward a large segment of Rifle’s population. I’ll run feature stories about local seniors, news at it pertains to senior issues, briefs of senior activities and the monthly menu for the meal sites offered through Senior Programs.
I’m also adding a page called “Destinations.” People in this area do a lot of neat things and take a lot of great photos. So whether it be a really cool hike you took, like Shelley Gardineer’s in this weeks paper, a fishing trip, found a special place in Colorado or took an interesting vacation, share your experience with all of us on the Destinations page!
Rifle’s rich and interesting history will be covered by Alan Lambert from the Rifle Creek Center for Historic Preservation, who has loads of historical information about the origins of the city and its early residents, along with really interesting old-time photos.
And if you like to write, I highly encourage you to submit a guest column on a subject that you’re interested in and, of course, you’re always welcome to write a letter to the editor.
Most of all, I’d like to see you all participate in this paper. I’m only one person and obviously I can’t be everywhere at all times. So if you’ll call or email me with story ideas or items you’d like to see in the paper I’d be happy to hear from you!
Let’s have fun with The Citizen Telegram. Let’s keep in touch with what our friends and neighbors are doing, what news affects us as residents of Rifle and activities we can participate in to make this the best place we can to live.
I know we all tend to go online to get our news nowadays and The Citizen Telegram is also available online.
But I don’t know…there’s also something to be said about holding a good ol’ newspaper in your hands while having a cup of coffee…
So feel free to contact me and let me know your thoughts. I might be the new editor, but ultimately, this paper is yours.
