Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – May 8, 2014

Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Robbery: On the morning of Friday, April 11, a robbery occurred at the Comfort Inn and Suites, 228 S. Railroad Ave., in Parachute. The night clerk told an officer that a man entered the lobby wearing a ski mask and a bandanna. The robber instructed the night clerk to open the safe and hand over the money. The clerk complied and the robber left, telling the clerk not to follow. When the clerk felt enough time had passed to ensure the robber had left the lobby, he called 911. Crime Stoppers of Garfield County is searching for information that will lead to the arrest and or indictment of the suspect in this case. Theft report: On April 29 at 10:03 a.m., deputies responded to a trespass and theft that occurred on Grass Mesa Road outside Rifle. This case is closed/inactive pending further leads.

Vicious dog: An animal control deputy responded to a vicious animal call on County Road 293 outside Rifle on April 29 at 1 p.m. Lawrence Leroy Dion, 70, of Rifle, was issued a summons for not having his dog licensed, allowing it to run at large and having a vicious animal.



Criminal mischief: Deputies responded to a suspicious incident in the 300 block of Arroyo Drive in Battlement Mesa on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. Jeffrey Dewayne Jones, 50, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and tampering and was taken to jail.

Child abuse: Deputies responded to a report of an incident in the 300 block of Apple Drive outside New Castle on May 1 at 9:35 a.m. Cody Scott Sloan, 34, was issued a summons for child abuse.

Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man in a vehicle near U.S. Highway 6 and County Road 246 outside Rifle on May 3 at 2:41 p.m. for a violation. Nicolas Ramos-Morales, 21, of Silt, was arrested on suspicion of spilling a load on the roadway, driving with an untarped load, driving with a revoked license and on an active warrant. He was taken to jail.
